Flooding

The village of Sutton Scotney is prone to flooding; the most recent serious flooding taking place in 2014.  The fields across from the Victoria Hall carry a winterbourne,  a steam which flows only or chiefly in winter and this is the source of much of the village flooding. The Victoria Hall, Witts Cottage, The Square and properties along Oxford Road are at most risk of flooding.  Some other flooding can occur at Wonston, Hunton and Stoke Charity but this is mainly surface water on the road.

Surface water in Sutton Scotney is carried north along and beneath Oxford Road towards the Bogmoor Sump which is a drainage system between the eastern corner of Oxford Road and the River Dever to the east of Bullington Lane.  Responsibility for Bogmoor Sump is shared between Hampshire County Council, who own the pipes beneath the A30 at Stockbridge Road East, and the Enviroment Agency who keep the open ditches and streams flowing.  There is an awkard network of pipes beneath the area of grass outside the Texaco Filling Station which have, in the past, been blocked by debris, and have caused water to backup along Oxford Road.
